How to Get a Duplicate Title in Missouri

Lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed your Missouri vehicle title? The titled owner can apply for a duplicate Missouri title using the Application for Missouri Title and License (Form 108).

To request a duplicate title, complete Form 108 and select DUPLICATE at the top of the application. In the Duplicate Title Only section, indicate why the replacement title is needed. The owner's signature must be witnessed by a notary, and the notary must complete the notarization section.

What you'll need:
• Completed Application for Missouri Title and License (Form 108)
• A Missouri address in the owner section
• Reason the duplicate title is being requested
• Owner's notarized signature
• Mutilated title, if replacing a damaged title
• Notarized lien release (Form 4809), if applicable
• $8.50 duplicate title fee
• $9.00 processing fee
The current state fees total $17.50.

What if there's a lien?
If a lien is still shown on the title record, additional documentation may be required to remove it. Missouri DOR requires a notarized lien release when applicable.

Bought the vehicle but never received the title?
A duplicate title is not a way to bypass a missing ownership document. Missouri states that when a vehicle's title is missing, the owner of record must obtain the duplicate, and a vehicle sale is not valid without a properly assigned title. If you purchased a vehicle without receiving a title, you may need a different process to establish ownership.

Where can the application be submitted?
The application and required fees may be submitted to a Missouri license office or mailed to the Missouri Department of Revenue's Motor Vehicle Bureau in Jefferson City.
